Hampton Roads Rowing Club hosts a number of annual events throughout the year. Beginning in February, we have our indoor rowing competition, the Erg Pull, where rowers of any age from all over the region compete against each other and the clock on the latest Concept II rowing machines. June brings the Row for the Cure, a fun regatta on the Lafayette River for a great cause. National Learn to row day, in early June is an opportunity for members of the community to show up at the club and get a taste of the sport for free. For a more in depth look at the sport, we hold a series of learn to row courses throughout the year aimed at teaching the complete novice the basics of rowing so they can competently take to the river by themselves or join the crew. The rowing season ends with the Head of the Lafayette, a hilarious Halloween costume race against the clock. Prizes at this event are not only for the fastest crew, but also for the best dressed! Check out our photos for some of the crazy costumes we have seen in the past! ------------------------ Row for the Cure The third annual Tidewater Row for the Cure had 36 entries, similar to last year. Despite the wind there was some excellent racing and great support from the viewing areas. Donations alone accounted for about $4,000 raised for the cause. Junior Sculling Sessions - Starts April 25th This is an opportunity for juniors with previous sweep experience to learn how to scull over the summer season. More details can be found here. Erg pull 2010 HRRC Erg Pull a huge success! The erg pull saw a big increase in the number of participants this year especially for the masters races. The day went extremely smoothly thanks to Rob Reali and his team of dedicated workers who assisted tirelessly. The erg pull is a crucial event for fund raising for the club, so please remember to pass on your thanks to those who helped. |
